Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass official reveal coming @ E3 2018

Hey everyone!
The time is finally right for us to do an official announcement of Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass. The full reveal will happen at the Devolver Digital E3 conference, this June in LA, but in the meantime be sure to wishlist the game on Steam to get all the latest info and updates first.

Oh… and here’s a nice little teaser so be sure to check it out and tell us what you think via our social network channels. 🙂

Croteam Incubator is now officially a thing!

The Croteam Incubator is an internal division of Croteam formed in 2015, with an initiative to provide Croatian developers with opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be available while focusing on Croteam’s studio values – creating great games and enjoying what makes game development fun.

“This year, Croteam is celebrating its 25-year anniversary. Starting up in this business wasn’t an easy ride. We went through it all, but we were also very lucky,” remembers Roman Ribaric, Croteam’s CEO and President of Croteam Incubator. “Croteam started in the proverbial garage, went through tough times and experienced a lot of difficulties before we got to where we are today. Now we’re in a position to help out and that’s exactly what Croteam Incubator is about.”

A lot of things weren’t available to new game dev studios in the past, like engine technology, grants, loans and private funding, which all are now more accessible to everyone willing to start in game development. At the same time, a lot of startup development studios are still struggling to get their projects off the ground.

SCUM and I Hate Running Backwards are Ready to Blow Your Mind at PAX East!

A wise man once said that nothing feels as good as playing a great game and while this might be completely made up we’re pretty sure not many things come close. That’s exactly the reason we decided to jump over The Pond once more and visit the great city of Boston for PAX East where we will be joined by two amazing teams – Gamepires and Binx Interactive – who are going to showcase their amazing projects.

You have undoubtedly heard about Gamepires. For the past two years, Gamepires have been working on developing the ultimate open-world survival game that will evolve the genre with its unprecedented levels of character customization and progress. That game is, of course, SCUM. The game has been talked about a lot, but it has never been showcased publicly, and that’s exactly why you should book your PAX East tickets right now.

SCUM will be available to play at the amazing custom made booth made in collaboration between Gamepires and Devolver Digital, so be sure to look for it on the show floor and give it a try. We know you’ll love it. Also, if you’re one of those cool content creator folk, be sure to drop a line to tinsley[at]tinsley-pr[dot]com to arrange an appointment and get a chance to chat to the developers.

Along with SCUM, PAX East will be enriched by the presence of Binx Interactive, a five-man part of the Croteam Incubator, who will be showcasing their “shoot-em-down” game I Hate Running Backwards. This gem of a game was last shown at Gamescom 2017 and Reboot InfoGamer 2017 but has evolved beyond expectation. That makes it a perfect fit for PAX East where you will be able to get hands-on and even play with some of the developers.

See you at Reboot Develop in Dubrovnik?

Not Davor Hunski.

Megalomaniac event managers of Reboot Develop have just updated the seemingly ever-growing list of this year’s speakers. The rest of the line up will be revealed as the conference nears, bringing the total number of speakers to “more than 110” industry veterans (in 7 tracks).

Currently there are “only” 34 speakers listed, but it’s hard not to be impressed just by glancing at the list. It’s also a great honor to see two of our very own devs in company of these games industry celebrities.

Davor Hunski, Croteam’s Chief Creative Officer and Grandfather of Croatian gaming industry will be joined by Admir Elezović, studio’s co-founder and Art Director for a talk on their current project. Which may or may not be Serious Sam 4. They aren’t saying (yet).

Regardless, Reboot Develop is shaping up as the most unique, premier and high-end games industry event in Europe and there are plenty of reasons to attend the conference taking place in historical seaside city of Dubrovnik, aka “real world King’s Landing”. The conference will be taking place from 19th to 21st of April 2018.

So this is Christmas…

You get a discount! You get a discount! You get a discount! Every one gets a discount!!!

So this is Christmas… and what have you done? Another year almost over but we’re not free of Mental scum.

That being said, it’s about time for all of you to jump back in and help Sam defeat those ugly bastards. What’s that? You’ve missed some of Sam’s adventures? No matter – they are all heavily discounted during the Steam Christmas Sale 2017.

If blowing stuff up is not your cup of tea, you can always spice your Christmas up with something philosophical. Oh, we don’t know… something like The Talos Principle that got the biggest price cut to date for both regular and VR versions.

Happy holidays!

We decide to implement iOS support to Serious Engine, you won’t believe what happens next!

Extra boost went in optimising rendering quality on higher-end devices (refraction effects, real reflection in waters/shiny floors, enabled FXAA antialiasing, enabled tree swaying, etc.)

Actually, you probably know already because It’s done and it works great. You can all check it out by downloading The Talos Principle from the iOS App Store. So much for the shock value, but the story on how Serious Engine was able to support Metal API and push the boundaries of iOS devices does make for a compelling read. Karlo JeĹľ, one of Croteam’s senior programmers, tells the story.

“I was just about finished with my work on single pass and multi-GPU rendering optimizations for VR titles and getting ready to start working on the next project. Alen (Croteam’s CTO) walked into my office and asked me if I knew anything about Metal API. I said ‘Yes. I know it’s out there’.”

“Just one short month later, the first builds were successfully tested on multiple iOS devices using Metal API.”

Project lead Mario Kotlar shares his thoughts on The Talos Principle VR launch – and you can’t stop him!

Mario – a VR aficionado always ready to try out new accessories and technologies.

We’ve sat down with Mario Kotlar, Project Lead on The Talos Principle VR, a VR aficionado that has preordered every headset imaginable (except for one) and perhaps the main culprit for Croteam’s involvement in VR.
He’s been a vocal advocate of the VR tech on Reddit and forums but spends his days in the office silently working long hours just to create what he feels the VR space needs the most – great games. Although The Talos Principle VR is now available on Steam, Mario doesn’t look any less busy. Still, we felt there are some questions that only he could answer.

Mario, how do you feel about The Talos Principle VR now that the game is finally out?

I often see people saying how Talos is just the perfect game for VR. That it must have been designed with VR in mind, and such. One would think adapting it for VR would be a breeze. I wish I could show you how long our list of bugs and necessary new features was. And this was after the engine already had fully functional VR support from a technical standpoint, which was worked on for over two years now, mostly throughout the development of Serious Sam The Last Hope.
